Urban Studio| ECOmmunity

3rd year | 2nd semester

The urban studio was located in Haifa. During a tour of Haifa we identified treasures, which became the core of the project. The ideology that guided us during the planning was based on sustainability and the quality of the environment, with an emphasis on harmony between nature, the city and clean industry in combination with social gatherings and maintaining the authentic character of the diverse population. The community consists of environmental activists who serve as a source of knowledge and raising social awareness on the subject of the heavy pollution in Haifa.
All these led us to choose to focus on Haifa Bay and its borders. Today, the various uses in the bay are disconnected from each other, and are like an "island" in an existing urban fabric.
We have identified a significant axis that goes from the sea to the oil refineries, through the port and the airport.
The goal is to turn the polluting industrial area in Haifa into an area that creates change, a center of national and international activity for sustainability and the quality of the environment and combining it with residences suitable for this character that preserve the relationship between nature, the city and clean industry.
